Elevate your fine-line Chinese painting or decorative watercolor with our premium gelatin-free, hard-sized golden silk-textured paper. This unique surface offers the beautiful, delicate look and luminous shimmer of traditional silk, but with the effortless convenience of working directly on paper—eliminating the traditional hassle of stretching and pinning loose fabric to a wooden frame. Specially crafted for Gongbi, Chinoiserie, and boneless (mogu) styles, this surface is also highly suitable for freestyle ink painting, calligraphy, and mixed media techniques.
The non-absorbent, hard-sized surface prevents bleeding and smearing, offering excellent control for creating smooth gradients, luminous washes, and precise details. Compatible with masking fluid, gouache, and acrylics, this textured paper responds beautifully to a wide range of painting methods.

Tips on How to Use Silk Paper - to prevent buckling, beading and Maintaining Control
Prevent and Correct Beading Issues
Beading—where paint or ink pools into droplets instead of spreading smoothly—is a common frustration when painting on silk. This often happens due to surface contamination from natural skin oils. Here’s how to avoid and correct it:
Wash your hands before handling the silk, and avoid touching the surface with oily fingertips.
If beading occurs, gently rub the area with a cotton ball with talcum powder (body powder or body powder may also work) to absorb oils and reduce surface tension.
You may also try adding a drop of alcohol to your ink or paint. This can improve adhesion and help your strokes flow better—especially in calligraphy or line work on slick silk surfaces.
Important Note on Mounting: While this silk-textured paper is ready to paint on directly (Weight: 50 GSM), it remains a beautifully thin and delicate material. To prevent buckling during heavy water washes, or to prepare your finished piece for framing, we highly recommend dry-mounting it to a heavier watercolor board or backing paper. You can easily do this either before or after painting using our [Silicone Mounting Paper].
