• Alum was applied as size to make it non-absorbant. It does NOT bleed or smear.
• It is as thin as cicada wing or shell and that is where it got its name (Chan Yi) from. However, it is very durable and will withstand multiple washes without getting fuzzy surface.
  
• The surface was treated with mica mineral powder which tiny sparkles in the sun or other strong light and give ink and colors delicate effects. 
  
• It is made for Gongbi(fine-line or elaborated) style Chinese brush painting. It can also be used to paint green and blue or Southern Song Dynasty style ink landscape See the sample paintings below.
