Lesson 37: Eagles

Thanks for waiting! As requested by many of you, the eagle lesson is ready now. In this class I will introduce a variety of masterpieces on eagle and show you the steps of how to paint free style eagles on unsized Xuan rice paper in a hands-on workshop manner. I hope eagle will bring you the spiritual power and courage. Let's paint this heroic bird now!

 

Video Length: 2 Hours

Assignments:

1. Study the eagle's head features and practice eagle's beak and eye on a small piece of paper.
Also practice eagles claws and wings as preparations before doing a complete eagle.
2. Paint a complete eagle, either standing or flying based on the sample paintings in the handouts. Please make some primary sketch with soft charcoal  or pencil before you do ink painting. You may leave out background or add any background such as pines, mountains, clouds or water as you like.

Optional Assignment:

1. Find a eagle painting by master Li Kuchan, Zhang Ce or other artists that you like to study by copying;

 2. Create your own masterpiece. You may use photos and videos as references or for inspiration.  

 

Diagrams and finished paintings seen in the video are included in the handouts.
