Lesson 34: Shrimps and Crabs in Qi Baishi Style with Prof Rao

Qi Baishi is the icon of Chinese brush painting, so as his shrimp  painting. If you have not tried to paint his shrimps you have not leaned  the best of Qi Baishi or CBP. In last lesson Prof Rao has showed us how  to paint Qi Baishi style insects, in this class she will share her  study on his shrimps and crabs based on her teaching book "Learn from Qi  Baiqi Painting Shrimp and Crabs". 
 The second source of this video  lesson was from my recent painting workshop at Nan Rae's studio, and we  had great fun doing these shellfish in Qi Baishi style! Don't miss this  opportunity to learn Qi Baishi's shrimps from a specialized Chinese  professor!

Assignments:
1) Following the video and handouts to learn how to load the brush properly to paint the shrimp's body, legs, claw and antennas. Try to capture the gesture and movement of the shrimp with brush strokes and indicate the translucency of shell by controlling the moisture and tonality.       2) Following the step by step instructions on the video and handouts to paint crabs.    
3) Try to learn composition from master Qi Baishi's shrimp or crab paintings. Discussion question, how did Master Qi suggest the water in which the shrimps live without painting any background? 
 
Diagrams and finished paintings seen in the video are included in the handouts.
