Lesson 43: Wei Zixi Style Autumn Landscape with Wei Li

We are honored to audit this landscape lesson in Nanjing with prof Wei Li, who is the daughter of master Wei Zixi. In this lesson you will learn how to create an autumn landscape with vibrant red dots, which is the unique technique of the Wei's landscape painting. Prof Wei Li's step-by-step demo shows you how to compose the painting and use various brush strokes to paint rocks, pine trees in different ink tonalities. In the second part of this lesson, Henry will show you how to complete the painting with color wash and highlights following the tips and tricks passed down from two generations of art masters in the Wei family.

Assignment

1. Watch Class Video Part 1 with Prof Wei Li and follow her first two steps to copy Master Wei Zixi's autumn landscape with red dots.

Please submit your ink work for critique. You may have to repeat this step be before continue to the next one. 

2. Read the instructions in the handouts and watch Henry's demo video of the coloring steps, finish the color wash and red dots on your painting.

 

Diagrams and finished paintings seen in the video are included in the handouts.
