Four-character title for your calligraphic inscription: 母親之花 — “Flower of Motherly Love.”
Why Carnation?
The carnation is often cherished as a Mother’s Day flower and is widely associated with love, admiration, remembrance, and a mother’s enduring affection, which makes it an especially meaningful subject for this class right before Mother's Day. Its layered, ruffled petals and elegant buds also make it a wonderful flower for gongbi painting, where careful line work and transparent color can reveal both delicacy and structure.
What you’ll learn
- A clear gongbi workflow: light outline → clean ink lines → soft base color → transparent layered washes for depth → crisp finishing details.
- Petal structure: how to paint the carnation’s frilled edges, overlapping petals, and subtle shifts in pink, coral, red, or variegated tones without losing clarity.
- Buds and leaves: slender leaves, supportive calyx forms, and unopened buds that bring rhythm and variety to the composition.
- Color plan: luminous floral colors set against fresh greens, with attention to keeping the painting harmonious, bright, and refined.
- Composition: arranging one main bloom with supporting blossoms and buds, while preserving space for inscription and seal placement.
