Lesson 50: Children Portraits

This lesson is a follow-up workshop after Lesson 48 Portrait from Photography. In this lesson we will focus on how to paint children portraits with some more tips and answers to many questions and problems that we have got in the previous lesson, such as how to draw facial contour and hairs, how to paint lips and nose, how to shade and color in nice and clean gongbi style etc. Thank Maribel for her generosity of sharing this in-person workshop with our online class and for her contribution as an advanced gongbi painting student to this lesson!

Assignments

1) Try to do a children for your family or friend, select some good pictures as your reference and submit one or two for posterizing if you need help(refer to Lesson 48 for information on how to prepare the photo for tracing).

2) Trace the outline of the picture with pencil and then make an outlined copy in ink. Submit it to your your work in progress.

3) Finish the painting on sized Xuan rice paper or silk with ink and/or color washes. Impress your family with your finished portrait you just did.  

 

Diagrams and finished paintings seen in the video are included in the handouts.
